Words and prose are the crowbars I use to pry my heart open to yours…
I am a writer, an author, a husband, a stepfather, and a teacher.
I write short ditties, essays, and books that I need to read to help myself.
My body is healing from stage 4 non-small cell lung carcinoma with bone metastasis (NSCLC). My writings spur my healing and recovery – assisted by the fellowship of love that surrounds me. Thank you. I am immensely grateful for your kindness to Terri and I.
Only my family and friends see these pages. My writings are spontaneous and unedited. Their frequency is unpredictable. You and I have a connection and a mutual curiosity about healing, happiness, and unique insights we are both seeking.
Here goes today’s ponderings…

Fear is selfish.
Courage is selfless.

Words create worlds
We are surrounded by the results of the words we use and the words we refuse to speak. Our relationships at home, work, and play are created by our words.
The environment always wins.
What surrounds us can drown us.
People. Clutter. Media. Messages.
Shiny objects distract us and kills our focus.
You have seen this before, but I need to keep these ideas in front of me.
I need to remember them.
(Today I start bone radiation treatments – so I need to be at the top of my game.)
Cuddling with Cancer
Cancer cells are my cells. My body made them.
We are on the same side. If I die, the cancer cells die.
We must co-exist or else we both die.
History isn’t Destiny
Time to give a heave-ho to our old habits.
The old and the familiar stops us from meeting the new and transforming.
The history we have does not determine the destiny we will enjoy.
Maybe it is time to resign from the debate committee in our mind.
No one can see your self-image but you.
We strive and struggle to get free of roadblocks keeping us sick, unhappy, overwhelmed, and penniless (emotionally, practically, and financially).
The friction that grinds us to a halt are habit patterns.
We love the comfort of the familiar without examining how expensive it is.
THE BIGGER THE DREAM, THE STRONGER THE RESISTANCE
Rule of thumb: the more important a call or action is to our soul’s evolution,
the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it.
In other words, there’s more good news.
The greater the Resistance we find ourselves experiencing,
the bigger the dream percolating inside us.
Big Resistance = Big Dream.
[from Steven Pressfield’s The Daily Pressfield,]
Instructions I was given:
“Be fearless. Let fearlessness radiate from you and dispel the fear in the hearts of others. Neither be a threat to others nor consider anyone to be a threat to you.
“It’s not important to teach all that you know; teach what people need to know and what they deserve to know.
“Guide them so that they improve their lives, become stronger, increase their capacities, gain deeper insight, and progressively become worthy to receive and appreciate higher wisdom.
Final Thoughts (replays) for Today
For years I have been letting go of my old operating system and my illness paradigm.
Then cancer walked in knocked down the doors and the walls. Barriers be gone!
This shifted everything.
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” — Buckminster Fuller
Old historical trash (fictional or not) still floats out with my extended exhalations, journal writing, self-reflections and morning chai chats with Terri and yet, the changes happening within me and around me are palpable. I am very thankful for this.
Whatever tiny sneaky little attitudes of hopelessness, fears of chemo or other worries creep in, I release and re-balance them with a strong positive outlook and by taking actions that work.
I will only share with you what I have personally found useful.
